What was the turning
point in your life that made you quit meth?
I asked this once before but we
have many new people. After I got responses last time I showed
it to T (boyfriend). Well now I would like to show it to my
cousin. It was nice for T because he knew he wasn't alone. I
want my cousin to see that she is not as well. I am afraid she
is beyond gone but maybe, just maybe, she will see some glimmer
of hope in your responses. |

Re: What was the turning

What made me quit? I ran out, wasn't
none to be found.
What keeps me quit? The reality that I lost a year of
precious memories of my children, my family.
I lost the memory of my son's first words, first steps, first
birthday that I can not replace.
I never ever want to be that person again.
I don't like who I was on meth.
I like me clean and sober.
I haven't lost a memory since. |

Re: What was the turning

My counselor put it to me this way last
night...
Your addiction started affecting all aspects of your life and
you started to realize that long before you quit but kept going.
You took your addiction far enough to where it made profound bad
effects your life. (and here comes the NA part) And your life
became unmanageable. You took it a few steps too far and the
last time you finally took notice and did something about it.
That's what happened with me at least. A few trips to the
hospital and emotionally out of control was enough to make me
stop!

Reality... The chance of a long prison
term...
My daughter.....
And I woke up one day and realized that I had lost everything I
worked my butt off to get. I used to have a great job and I
found myself in a jail cell not even being able to afford a pair
of jail socks.
Reality hit me in the face....That's why I stopped

I got fired from my job, I was having too
many problems with the law, my family, my health, my finances,
and everything else.
Simply:
I had gotten to the point where I was not willing to lose any
more. |

Quote... I had gotten to the point where I
was not willing
to lose anymore...
I was about to lose... My life... and if I didn't lose that I
surely was about to lose a roof over my head, and most
importantly, MY Partner in life. Who could no longer stand to
watch me kill myself. |

Re: What was the turning
point in your life that made you quit meth?
I knew that death was near; I sensed it; and
for the first time in my life, I chose life.
That was more than 10 years ago, after 13 long, hard years of
meth.
In those 13 years, my addiction caused more damage and
destruction that I realized while I was using. So getting and
staying clean was hard. There was a lot of clean up to do. But
it was the smartest thing I have ever done.
We DO recover, and somehow we manage to move beyond the ugliness
of addiction to appreciate the beauty of life and the world
around us.
I got clean in the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous. I needed to be
around people who were just like me and there were two ways I
could do that: go back out with my tweaker buddies, or go to an
NA meeting with my ex-tweaker buddies.
There is hope for everyone who struggles with addiction. As long
as there is breath...there is hope. |

The damn evil needle. I always thought that
would never be
me, but 2 years after smoking meth was shooting up at
least daily. I was only 21, and tired of feeling 64 If
I can do it anyone can. I choose to live today |

Thank you for sharing. A few of you even said
you felt death would be upon you. Strong stuff and I am glad you
go to your stopping point before death did climb upon you. |

Re: What was the turning

the last time i used, i had went for a
methadone assessment and was waiting to go back and see the dr.
i had to go sick so i hadn't used all day. finally, i couldn't
take it any longer. my daughter was in her seat w/ her dad, i
had a visit. i got the same amount as usual, but it must have
been different. after i shot up, i said that was strong, started
having a seizure. he kept shaking me, trying to get me up. my
eyes were pink underneath and my lips were blue. the needle was
stuck in the wall. 911 was called and i was brought back. my
life was horrible up to that point. all the words cant tell you
the hell i went thru for drugs. i would sell u my soul, if i had
one. my baby would have seen her mommy die. what kind of person
wraps a shoelace around her arm in front of an infant? an addict
does. i had i yr before this happened, so i felt the guilt this
time. this on top of living life on the streets day to day,
living for a drug, i just could no longer do it |

what woke you up I am glad. |

Re: What was the turning

I was sick and tired of being sick and tired
plus I did some time for something I did not do. going to jail
for something I didn't do did it for me I knew if I kept on
using that could so happen again and I was not willing to take
that chance. |

Re: What was the turning
point in your life that made you quit meth?
I lost everything, mostly my self-respect.
Someone asked what I would do next. I prayed for death but was
too wimpy to get it. They asked why I didn't leave, I wanted to.
They gave me a ticket. That was 4 years ago. Up until then all I
ever knew how to do was to get high. It seems like a lifetime
ago, yet it can all be back in a second if I let it. Not today! |
