Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
My boyfriend and I were talking
about his hips and joints. While he used they were always sore and in
pain. Since he has stopped he hasn't complained one time about this. Has
this happened to anyone else? Just curious and why would this happen? |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
Opposite here Macy - for hubby
and I both.
Now I have had arthritis in my hips since I was 18 or younger maybe.
But it did not bother me when I used- I had no pain that I recall. It is
a daily thing for me- I just ignore it.
Hubby had no pain when using -other than in his arm muscles.
Since getting off the shyt, his ankles, his teeth, his hips- all of it
hurts. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
Hi Macy,
When I was using, I had EXCRUCIATING pain in my hips. I know what it was
from (uh hum) extra pressure on the joints. |

I agree with imlostinky
Most meth users that I've talked to about this complain of joint pain
after quitting. Meth, besides everything else, is also analgesic, it
takes away pain.
Stopping meth use can result in pain in the joints, especially the
knees.
Just a non-scientific observation here. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
Interesting. You could be right
Sfj and Theresa. But he swears the pain is gone now and was more so
while using. However, since he was a weekend user do you think during
the week it could have caused this pain? Just wondering. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
Macy, it may have been just where
he was on his feet so much more while using.Or calcium depletion.
and if it is gone now, enjoy it!
Hubby was on his feet so much while high, he has bunions of an 80 year
old man at 43.
All within a year of use.
It could be he jurt still when using- but just did not feel the pain
then -but does now.
Well unless he breaks his hand- he didn't feel that one.
Funny how that worked. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
I never seemed to have these
problems while I used, though I was a daily user and didn't really feel
any pain at all. However as soon as I quit I had the most horrific back
pain. It lasted for about a month, then it slowly started to go away, I
believe as my body was building itself back up. I've heard of this
happening to a lot of meth users. I think it's the meth and the lack of
sleep and food breaking down your body, and whenever your sober you can
actually feel the pain from it. That's just what I've seen in my
experience. |

Yeah I remember him cutting
himself at work and saying it didn't hurt. And it was deep. It freaked
me out because normally he would be nursing his work wounds! |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
I had some weird things come and
go.
...body aches, joints, needing a joint!
stuff like going up stairs when I was up for a day or two
...would cause me to stop, and pant, and my legs would be
just screaming.
now I'm ok. ...well, I can go upstairs without
feeling my expiration date is up. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
I used to wake up with cuts and
bruises all over my body after a binge. I didn't know they were there
until I was sober, and as soon as I'd light up again I'd immediately
forget about them again. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
Yes. I had terrible pain in my joints while I was
using. The pain went away completely when I quit; almost immediately.
Whoops. The reason? I'm not sure why. I just figured
it was because I stopped putting poison in my body. |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
My hubby is the opposite. He felt hardly any pain
while high.
Now his back and elbows (joints) are killing him. He kept me up half the
night last night whimpering in pain in his sleep. He owns a construction
company, so I am sure that a lot of his pain is occupational. He just
couldn't feel it when he was spun out.
I hope that it does subside somewhat. Even though a part of me is glad
when I see that he 'feels' something, I don't want it to be this severe
for long! |

Re: Why do hips and joints hurt using meth?
I use to be a Table Games Dealer for the last 10
years and of course used every freakin day and had the worst back and
neck pain after not sleeping for 2 days then I would get some rest, like
a day, then it would come back. Or if I didn't use for like a week then
get a toothe ache so after doing a line, BLAM it was gone. Crazy @#%$. I
have 11 months clean and have no back or neck pain.....I think because I
sleep and eat and don't tweak on stupid @#%$ like dealing cards for 15
hours and then come home to clean house and bead. hehehehe.....I got my
teeth fixed thank god. |

Thanks everyone for their thoughts and opinions and
answers! I am going to have my boyfriend look at this. Just another
reason for him to be proud of being clean! |
