Hearing loss from meth use?
Long story,
but I was wondering if anybody has suffered hearing loss, after
using meth for a couple of years? |

I'm not
trying to be funny - really - but
He obviously had a hearing problem when he was doping before he
got locked up. He never heard a damn thing I said.
I'll have to let you know when he gets home in 75 days if he
still has that problem.
I can say, that I think sight has been affected....for both of
us. |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
I have
been using meth off and on for around 11 yrs and have only been
clean for 32 days now and can definitely say that yes meth has
effected my hearing. Not that I am completely deaf or anything
its more like being tone deaf sometimes when people are talking
to me it sounds like they are muttering or I will think they
said something other then what they really said. I constantly
find myself asking people to repeat themselves. So yeah.
Before I quit when I was high and people would talk to me and I
didn't understand them or it sounded like muttering I thought I
was just to high to comprehend but, now that I have been clean
for awhile I truly do believe it effected my senses. Just
another reason to never use again!
Well that's all I have |

Really? So maybe he couldn't understand me
for real?
I know he was real excited recently when the prison changed
phone companies. They got new phones installed with volume
buttons.
Geez - now I have to wonder.....thanks for this info! |

Yep,
those addicts haven't heard a damned thing I've said.
Seriously, I'm betting that the stress on the vascular system
and the nerve receptors or whatever those things in the brain
are called-the tow trucks that take the dopamine cars when they
don't have enough parking spots....(from the explanation on
dopamine) and of course, the plain ole nutritional deficiencies
from meth use could easily cause hearing loss-or maybe it's more
of understanding loss-you know, messages from the optic nerve
don't quite make it right to the brain. What do you think, I'd
make a horrible teacher huh?
I think that meth and the lifestyle hurts the whole body. |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
I've
never seen any legitimate medical evidence supporting the notion
that meth use causes hearing loss.
But then again, new information might reveal the unknown
someday.
So far, I've talked to many hundreds of meth users, I do it
everyday. I've been doing it for years. None have ever said that
hearing loss was associated with meth use.
To luvepiphany and Naiev Newlywed,
Is it possible that the problem isn't with the hearing, but
maybe a lack of listening skills.?
To sickidsgurl,
Why do you think it was meth and not some other cause that was
co-occurring?
Thank you |

Well guess I hadn't thought of that but i
suppose it could be something else that caused it however, I
first noticed it while I was using Meth so I guess that's why I
made that association. I don't have medical evidence that Meth
caused it. I just don't know what else could have.
If you didn't notice I mentioned that I thought I was just too
high too comprehend when I was using. Hence the bad listening
skills you mentioned but, in my case I still am experiencing
issues with hearing.
well there ya have it |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
Of course
Sfj, I can't understand Chinese
Where is all that published medical lit on what meth does
metabolically and nutritionally that I've seen somewhere? Sfj,
you live in one of the most progressive places regarding
alternative and natural health/medicine-how come none of the
health nuts have filled you with the info so full that you have
it memorized? I'm just surprised you aren't more vocal-though I
know you don't like to give meth too much credit. Are you just
trying to get people to prove it to you-get a discussion going,
or do you really not think there is a lot of physiological
damage to the body from meth use-well, extended meth use? Just
wondering. Californian that you are.... |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
Huh! What
did you say?
Al recovering meth addict!
Good one Barncats!
Just my opinion now;
The route might ! I had a friend who went deaf from snorting'
cocaine.
The actual chemistry of meth ? Who actually knows, it's such a
concoction of chemicals that anything is possible.
But the activities one does on meth;
Loud music ( perhaps)
loss of sleep
poor nutrition
Thoughts?
And just for (him) who wants to know, NO I don't have a degree
in meth.
I'm just a recovering addict with an opinion who happens to be a
registered nurse. |

What about bursting blood vesicles?
Meth causes these, and these can cause hearing loss if in the
right place. |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
I work in
a hearing clinic. As far as I know meth will not affect your
hearing. But I think meth weakens your immune system. I know for
a fact that sometimes a virus can attack your hearing and your
balance. So it might be possible that he got could have gotten
sick, caught a virus and it damaged his hearing. |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
My ears
ring 24/7...not just a little, it progressively got worse thru
the course of my addiction.
There's a story in the NA basic text that tells of a woman who
lost all hearing... until one day when she heard the phone ring |

Re: Hearing loss from meth use?
Hearing
loss may be caused by changes in the blood supply to the ear
because of heart disease, high blood pressure, vascular
(pertaining to blood vessels) conditions caused by diabetes, or
other circulatory problems. The loss may be mild, moderate, or
severe.
Meth does raise blood pressure and damage blood vessels. |

Huh what
did you say? I can't hear you.......
Maybe it's just a case of what I like to call SELECTIVE
HEARING. |
