Re: methadone and trazodone
Here's a
little something on one of the drugs. I just happen to be
reading a very good book.
"The SSRI antidepressants, as well as some other antidepressants
such as Wellbutrin and Desyrel (Trazodone) cause Akathisia. In
earlier chapters, I described this drug-induced neurological
condition that can become a virtual inner torture of irritation
and anguish. Akathisia can drive a person toward bizarre and
even violent actions. SSRIs can also cause a loosening of
inhibition or self-control, leading to unanticipated acts of
violence."

Re: methadone and trazodone
My
husband used trazodone for several years. He has had insomnia
since he was a child. After going through all the quack doctors
and finally becoming honest about his drug use, he was given
trazodone. The doctor said it given to vietnam vets for insomnia
because it was non-addictive. I don't know if that is true, just
what the doc said.
All it did was put him to sleep. He didn't get high, just really
tired. No side effects. He quit taking it because he wanted to
be completely drug free. |

Re: methadone and trazodone
i was
prescribed trazodone a while back for insomnia... I'm not
usually one to get hit by side affects, but that stuff messed me
up. shy quiet me all of a sudden was constantly frustrated and
felt like breaking things.... didn't know why. looked up the
common side affects and saw quite a list of anger, depression,
suicidal thoughts and all kinds of crap. i don't know how it
affects other people, but i got rid of it fast. its now on my
list of meds that i am "allergic" to. |

I almost
got arrested for having trazodone in my wallet when I got pulled
over. I heard its fairly mild, they hand it out in jails like
candy |

Re: methadone and trazodone
methadone is a synthetic opiate used to treat opiate addiction
and pain management. it can also be abused. I'm sure others know
more about it, i just took it. |

Re: methadone and trazodone
Methadone is a narcotic pain reliever, similar to morphine.
Methadone also reduces withdrawal symptoms in people addicted to
heroin or other narcotic drugs without causing the "high"
associated with the drug addiction.
Trazodone can be used in the treatment of any type of
depression. It is also used to reduce the symptoms of
agoraphobia, drug induced insomnia, essential tremor, repetitive
screaming, and some pain syndromes. |

Re: methadone and trazodone
Trazodone I take for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia
so that I can sleep (anti-depressant and pain relief
properties). I completely took myself off of it for one year
(during college and before I used meth). There were nights I
didn't sleep at all and was utterly useless in class the next
day. When CFS and Fibro are at bay, I am on as few meds as
possible. I hate taking pills.
Being totally honest with my 2 MD's, I went back on Trazodone
after quitting meth. After about 2 weeks, I was able to sleep
through the night like one should. As the sinus infection
brewed, so did my relapse of CFS and Fibro. Some nights it still
simply will not allow sleep even with the Trazodone. That's the
ugly part of CFS and Fibro--a portion of the ugly anyhow. I
prefer them over meth any day.
Each of us have to be very careful with any medication(s). Side
effects and allergies can come on with first use, during, or
when starting a medicine over again. Cassandra you are wise in
putting it in the "allergic" category. Please always read the
information brochures that come with any prescription
medication. |

Re: methadone and trazodone
My
boyfriend is on both of those medications, actually he has been
on them off and on over the last couple of years. He takes the
trazodone for sleep at nighttime and he's on a methadone program
for treatment of his heroin addiction. He has no problems with
the meds. The trazodone just helps him stay asleep and the
methadone helps curb cravings, eliminate withdrawals, and block
the effects of additional opiates should he try to use on top of
his dose. He had to leave a urine sample today for a drug screen
today and it will be clean. So far he's been drug tested 3x's
and including this ua he will have 2 of out of 3 clean which is
good. He hasn't been using heroin but he was still having
trouble with the uppers like crack and speed. He spent the night
last night since I'm going to the hospital sometime today to be
induced since I'm past my due date. It could be anytime between
5am-10pm so we are just sitting around the house waiting not so
patiently.

Re: methadone and trazodone
Hi
there. There is a lot to say about Methadone. It helps some and
kills others. It's a very DEADLY drug if it isn't prescribed
correctly or the person, taking it doesn't know how to take it.
My mother, Vicki Stuerke, died on March 28th from an "acute
Methadone Overdose". She had gotten the drug from a Methadone
clinic, trying to kick heroin and no doubt, get high from it. My
mother was 51, she died peacefully in her sleep. Methadone is
killing more and more people everyday. If you or a loved one is
thinking about taking this drug, PLEASE be careful and know
about this med before taking it. It's heart wrenching to lose
someone you love to Methadone or any drug for that matter. Good
luck. |

Re: methadone and trazodone
like i
said before, i have been prescribed trazodone for insomnia
(although it was not drug related insomnia - except for the fact
that i couldn't sleep cuz my husband was using...) and it was
not good for me, personally.
as for methadone, i have had it only as a pain killer... but i
do know that it definitely has the potential to get someone high
and can be very addictive... my husband had problems with it in
his past.
is a couple years normal for someone to be on methadone? even
during recovery? seems like a long time to me...
are you sure he isn't addicted to it? |

Methadone is as addictive as heroin, and
the withdrawals are just as bad - the half life is longer, I
believe.
Trazodone is a tricylic antidepressant that is often used for
sleep, not addictive, works well, and often leaves people with
something of a "hangover" or sedated feeling for the first few
days or week that they use it.
In 27 years of psych nursing, never once have I heard of anyone
experiencing akathesia from trazodone. Actually, it is sometimes
used as a treatment FOR akathesia. Trazodone has a sedative
effect, unlike the restlessness of akathesia. |
