Are you staying clean without a 12 step program?

Popeye Are you staying clean without a 12 step program?
I would like to know who is staying or getting clean without a 12 step program?
Online support Websites and Meetings have been effective for me to stay clean. I am seeking other ways to continue.

"The Polly Parrots Band" at 12 step meetings of people repeating what someone else says does get to me.

If something works then repetition is what it takes.

I have been clean for almost 3 years and I have never been to a meeting or rehab. I did it all by myself. I just found this board like a month ago. It was really hard doing it, but I have done it so far. Do what works for you!!

I have never been to a 12 step meeting. Talking to stranger up close and personal just isn't my thing. I have been clean for 4 years this month.

I became a Christian. This drug is too much for me to fight alone. For me, that's what worked and continues to work.
My husband, sil, and bil all did the same.

Try these for alternatives to conventional 12 step approaches.
I agree...one size doesn't "fit all"

Other viable options...
"Rational Recovery" & "SMART Recovery"

Dan, I like that..."one size doesn't fit all".

I'm not a meeting kinda gal, so I did it on my own.
I'll have a year clean tomorrow.

When I first decided to get clean I did go to NA once a week for like the first month or so but I don't go anymore.

My husband and I are each others support systems, 'if you will'. That and the rest of our family. Will power goes a long way when you have determination.

I won't say or act like its been easy. Heck I still have my moments when I want to say f' it and go get all fed up. But, then I just remember why I quit in the first place.

And just like vctry7 my husband and I have joined a church and find strength in Jesus Christ!

Today I am 117 days clean and counting.

I have not been to rehab. No meetings. I was 5 years meth free Jan. 2.
My Savior Jesus Christ saved me from my habits.

Welcome!

Former, I never did meetings. Didn't have the opportunity at the time.
What I did find to be a needed is others in recovery to help me see my weaknesses, my strengths, and give me guidance.
If I had all the answers I needed within for recovery, then what was I doing being an addict?
I needed help and insight from others.

Honestly I have found the most learning here on KCI from reading others who do go to meetings- either CMA or NA or SMART Recovery.
I learn a lot from them. Maybe just because it is repeated doesn't make it parrot talk? Maybe it is repeated because it has been tried and found to be true?

When I get the opportunity, I am going to attend an NA meeting- just to see what it is about firsthand.
Good luck in your recovery.

Re: Are you staying clean without a 12 step program?
Well...whoever you are....makes no difference to me...
I didn't do a program, neither did my husband, and neither did my BIL. We just quit.
BUT....we have all been to counseling, church and have educated ourselves by watching and reading anything and everything about meth.

I have learned a great deal from the people who have been to the programs, meetings, rehab. A LOT. I wish I'd done it that way. I probably would have been a lot further along if I had. Thank God they're supposed to "give it away "....I've picked up what they're putting down.

The thing that has worked the best is to watch our environment....staying away from people , places and things that are associated. We have to. I actively surround myself with people who wouldn't watch me put a loaded gun to my head and pull the trigger. Figuratively speaking, of course.

Popeye,
My husband did an outpatient rehab counseling for 6 weeks. Since then it has been all by himself. He will have 1 year in Jan 28th. He too watches and read a lot about meth and it's dangers. I think it is reinforcement for him.
