Anyone itch after using meth?
Ever
since my son got off meth 2 years ago, he has itched all
over his body. He has tried different lotions and oils
and taken benadryl with not much success. His doc said
it could be nerve damage from the meth. Has anyone
experienced the same thing and if so how did you treat
it. |

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Jamm1-
Welcome to KCI........am so glad you son is clean!
Have you read any of the FAQ's yet? Old ones and new
ones on the home page of KCI? If not, try there for a
few minutes til I finish up here...it's called
Formication; a crawling sensation of the skin.
Since I'm not an MD, I'd see your doc. They can get
infected and may need to be seen and some type of creme
medication applied. Ice packs will lessen some of that
itchy crawly feeling-try that.
I'll be back in just a few and see if you found your
answers on the main page of KCI. Here's another
invaluable website: read and take in as much as you can.

Again, Welcome to KCI...home of addicts, addicts in
recovery, and loved ones. Make yourself at home. We do
have a lot of great knowledge here and lotsa love too.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
I know what you're talking about but shouldn't that have
disappeared after 2 years? This is more of a dry itchy
feeling.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Jamm1-
I'm not a doc...if it's more like winter dry itchy skin
without open sores, a gentle cleansing with Ivory soap
and towel dry-then apply some, if you had it on hand
it's great: Sarna Lotion...if you don't, a mild lotion
or hydrocortisone creme should help.
I'd check in with his MD either way, just to be safe.
Let us know how things go?!

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
I have a skin condition that can most likely be
attributed to meth. A chronic staph infection. I get
bumps. My doctor has tried giving me some intense rounds
of antibiotics, but it only clears up temporarily.
I am not sure about itching. Do you think it could be
behavioral, meaning he started it while using, and has a
kind of compulsion to keep doing it? Or is it possible
he damaged his skin somehow while using? Scratching at
the bug feeling? I'm not diagnosing, because I'm not
qualified, these are just ideas.
I would suggest talking to the doctor, if he has a
doctor he can be totally honest with that is so helpful.
I have had so much help from my doctors after I finally
started telling them the truth.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
After 2 yrs I would think the itching related to meth
would be done !
BUT - I have that on my scalp. It started when I was
doing meth and I still have the condition 13 years
later.
Tea Tree oil works best....and having my nails done so I
don't itch it to death. Guess your son probably wouldn't
want his nails done, though.
Ask your son to go to the Dr and tell how it
started....see what they say.
You must be VERY proud of your boy !!! Congrats to him
on 2 yrs !!

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Did the doctor run tests on his liver? It seems to me I
recall someone on here having experience with this and
it had to do with liver function.
If the doctor hasn't, maybe he should.
Congratulations on 2 years for your son. That is
awesome.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Imlostinky is right - liver problems can cause chronic
itching, especially at night. Did he use needles?
A hepatitis panel might be a good idea.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Most definite follow the very wise advice from the
previous poster.
But .... take it from someone who really knows about
suffering from dehydrated skin problems.
This is what works the best for "ME"
Maximum strength Neem soap. and Hemp lotion.
any regular soap or glycerin product just makes it
worse.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Symptoms of Kidney
disease
Many people who have chronic kidney disease don't know
it, because the early signs can be very subtle. It can
take many years to go from chronic kidney disease (CKD)
to kidney failure. Some people with CKD live out their
lives without ever reaching kidney failure.
However, for people at any stage of kidney disease,
knowledge is power. Knowing the symptoms of kidney
disease can help you get the treatment you need to feel
your best. If you or someone you know has one or more of
the following symptoms of kidney disease, or you are
worried about kidney problems, see a doctor for blood
and urine tests. Remember, many of the symptoms can be
due to reasons other than kidney disease. The only way
to know the cause of your symptoms is to see your
doctor.
Symptom 4: Skin Rash/Itching
Kidneys remove wastes from the bloodstream. When the
kidneys fail, the buildup of wastes in your blood can
cause severe itching.
What patients said:
"It's not really a skin itch or anything, it's just
right down to the bone. I had to get a brush and dig. My
back was just bloody from scratching it so much." "My
skin had broke out, I was itching and scratching a lot."

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
KellHappy~
Just throwing some info out to you here. I read a study
done by John Hopkins awhile ago. They did a study with
babies that had chronic staph infections. One half of
the study used antibiotics and the other used pure
honey. The honey panel cured up the infection
completely, quickly, and with minimal scarring as
opposed to the group that used antibiotics.
I would check out that study and perhaps try it under
doctor supervision. I haven't a clue what type of honey
was used, the amount, or anything really except for the
generalities.
Just thought I'd share that with you as a staph
infection is or could be quite serious.

Re: Anyone itch after using meth?
Tell your son I said GREAT JOB and WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!
I know that my skin is a lot more dry than it used to be
before I used. I was told to drink more water. Water
really does hydrate your skin as strange as it sounds.
If you have insurance, you should have him see a
dermatologist. They are really awesome and they might
have something that could help. Good luck. |
