From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
For those of you who went
from snorting meth to smoking
it...
What changes did you see in yourself?
Did your addiction become much worse?
Did you treat others even worse when you began smoking it?
Was the drive to use so much stronger, that you stayed awake
more days than before?
Did you begin spending even more money on meth?
Is recovery after progression to smoking it, much worse than
recovering from snorting only?
Did you distance yourself even more from your loved ones?
For those who observed a loved one going from snorting to
smoking.................................................
Did you notice a change in their behavior when they began
smoking it?
Did you notice a faster decline in their health?
Did they distance themselves even more from the family and loved
ones?
Did their anger and denial increase?
Full of questions again today....thanks in advance for any
replies! Trying so hard to understand this addiction...how it
progresses etc....so many young people in this town simply
consider meth "a fad!" Just the latest fad, some call it....GEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!
Like jumping off bridges has become popular, so we had to follow
the fad!!!! So sad!!! |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Hmmm... I bet you get
varied answers on this.
I noticed right away that my compulsion to use skyrocketed once
I started smoking it. Sometimes I joke around that I should have
been a crackhead, cause I sure smoked like one - seriously every
couple minutes!
With snorting, my high and my use was steadier and low-grade,
but still very enjoyable. With smoking, I became more tense,
"locked up", and desperate when I ran out. My come-downs didn't
feel any harsher, maybe because at that point I was using every
day. Smoking definitely stepped up my addiction. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Did you notice a change
in their behavior when they began smoking it?
Yes, this is
when he always quit jobs.
Did you notice a faster decline in their health?
More coughing,
more binging, more aches and pains
Did they distance themselves even more from the family and loved
ones?
Yes, I guess
smoking was a greater risk and he seemed to want to sit around
and enjoy it so he stayed away from home as much as possible.
Did their anger and denial increase?
Anger, yes. He
always denied until after months of me putting pipes and powder
in his face that I'd found. He did go to greater lengths to
protect his addiction. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Oh yeah, I snorted for 6
months and managed to keep it together. I started smoking in Oct
of 1993 and by Oct of 1994 I was homeless, jobless,
carless....nothingness except for my will to score dope.
Smoking definately speeded up the process of the addiction. I
could do a line a day until I started smoking it. I did that
because my nose got irritated by some harsh stuff and my new
dealer boyfriend showed me how to smoke it. Right on, dude !!
All that rolling of the pipe, watching it crystalize, chasing
every last morsel in the pipe.
Lines, you chop it up, put it out, snort it, lick the mirror
...done.
Seeing the pipes on Oprah made me jones and I have been clean
for a long time. Seeing lines on a mirror on TV or watching
someone on TV do a line doesn't bother me in the least. Playing
with the pipe, now that's a different story. It wasn't really the
drug I was thinking about doing, it was the playing with the
pipe. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Hey no more mething
around, I am so curious when you say your nose got so irritated
and that you could do a line and keep it together, was it
obvious to other people that your nose was irritated. I just
know that this has got to be why my husband constantly sniffes
all the time. I just have been so confused b/c he is able to go
to bed at night and eat and before when he was using, he would
just push his food around and not eat and not come to bed at
all. I think he has changed to doing it in the morning, so he is
coming down towards the end of the day when he has to face the
family etc. Just curious about your irritated nose. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
I TOTALLY agree with No
More Mething Around. The ritual around smoking the stuff was its
own addiction - preparing it, filling the torch with propane,
lighting it, watching it burn, the smoke in the stem etc.
Additionally, the ritual of smoking made it harder and harder to
leave the house - smoking it wasn't as portable as snorting it.
Consequently, I think my addiction definitely increased because
I spent more time at home - hitting the pipe every ten to
fifteen minutes.
I think you can be more "functional" when you snort it - smoking
it turned me into more of a hermit. Also, smoking it increased
the sex part too which also didn't make me want to leave the
house! (: |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Absolutely , Venus,
smoking made me stay in the bathroom and do weird stuff like
playing with candles and picking.
Lines, I just did one, then went to work, to the store, cleaned
my house, did yard work, paid the bills, wrote up the minutes
for my comittees I served on, billed my clients, scheduled my
workers, took phone calls, walked the dog, went to the park.....
after I started smoking, because my nose was getting raw, my
life consisted of the dealer, the dope and the pipe.
I sniffed alot, too. My nose was getting raw and it hurt, it was
irritated....
I was sticking stuff up where the sun don't shine and it felt
like the inside of my nose was sunburned.
I never really did alot when I was doing lines. A half gram
could last me a week.
Smoking turned that into a teener, easy. Get a teener, sell 3
quarters, keep the rest for free. Go back, do it all over again
when I ran out. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Looking back at the
behavior of the person I know (because I didnt know there were
drugs involved at the time) these are some things I now see. I
think the person I know started doing lines about 7 years ago.
Then started smoking it about 2 years ago. So 5 years snorting
and 2 years smoking approx.
But I never noticed anything, other than that person being happy
happy all the time...really fun person to be around.
But looking back over the last year and a half, I remember
things that were said that were inappropriate...laughing in
inappropriate situations. Things that make you think 'did they
just say that?' I would think why did she say that? That was
really wierd. But I would just keep it to myself.
I remember once her laughing (like she just couldnt help it)but
she was laughing at someone who coulda kicked her butt. And I
told her _____ , shhh dont say that!! I was like, do you want to
be beat up in the parking lot?
Little subtle things that are hard to type and discribe...
saying 'do you want some vaseline with that screw?' Yeah it was
kinda funny at the time...but now that I think about it....
I know everybody sticks their foot in their mouth, but just
certain behavior, you cant quite put your finger on it, but you
know something weird is going on. But never even thought of
drugs.
And also comments that made me feel she was a little paranoid
about some things.
It's just hard to explain, but I think I really noticed a
difference in her personality when the smoking started. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
snorting, smoking and
slamming.
That's the order I've seen it in.
Only one person do I know who starting straight with slamming.
She was 14.
Each step takes you deeper and worst into addiction. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
Did your addiction become much worse?
I can't really say that it became much worse. But I did gradualy
loose the desire to snort it.
Did you treat others even worse when
you began smoking it?
Yes I think I was more cranky when smoking it than snorting it.
And more posessive of my dope when smoking it.
Was the drive to use so much stronger,
that you stayed awake more days than before?
Yes the desire to use was stronger. But Definately NO smoking
did no keep me up longer than snorting. If I was snorting, I had
a LOT more energy, bouncing off the walls. If i smoked. I was
relaxed and tweaked out on a game. The same bag smoking would
last half as long as it would snorting. But smoking makes you
feel more euphoric.
Did you begin spending even more money
on meth?
Yes.
Is recovery after progression to
smoking it, much worse than recovering from snorting only?
I don't know. I never quit when I was just snorting.
Did you distance yourself even more
from your loved ones?
Yes. Smoking is a ritual that you can't be interrupted. And its
an ongoing process. You want another hit every 15 minutes.
Snorting, I could do a line in a matter of minutes, and not come
back for more for a few hours. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
What changes did you see
in yourself?
...it was very sexual for me, I jonesed for it more,
Did your addiction become much worse?
I think so, definately.
Did you treat others even worse when you began smoking it?
not really, I was late all the time.
Was the drive to use so much stronger, that you stayed awake
more days than before?
the drive to use?
......feeling imbalanced, jonesing, anxiety about running out?
yes, alot more.
...when I ate it, I did'nt feel that intense about wanting
more..
I actually could sleep on it when I smoked it, as I said, it was
sexual, and it was a different buzz.
Did you begin spending even more money on meth?
.....not really.
I always spent all my money on it either way.
Is recovery after progression to smoking it, much worse than
recovering from snorting only?
both were pretty bad, I was different ages when I quit.
...at 22 a I bounced back quicker than 40.
and there's a nasty phlemy cough that goes with it.
....really nasty.
it sounds like you are 2 steps from death.
I started the paralysis dreams withdrawing from smoking.
....I got scared to sleep w/o smoking because I had these
feelings I wanted to move and could'nt, right before sleep.
......terrifying, like being buried alive preludes.
Did you distance yourself even more from your loved ones?
....either way, my loved ones were a drag....the wanted me to
quit. I distanced myself from everyone and tinkered.
.....unless I had a BF....all of them used too.
For those who observed a loved one going from snorting to
smoking.................................................
Did you notice a change in their behavior when they began
smoking it?
yes...unbelivable changes, I'm sure I was weird too, but
definatly...YES.
Did you notice a faster decline in their health?
yes.
Did they distance themselves even more from the family and loved
ones?
yes.
....but because they belived everyone was out to get them
and betray or lie to them.
I'm an addict, and I still loved them both, and had no thoughts
of them being deceptive to me.
....it was very frustrating, and heartbreaking to have my
loyalty denied, and I'm very faithful, honest and true.
...it felt like my love was an airconditioner pouring out
love.....and my BF was an open window.
horrible fighting.
...ugly memories...fear, hopelessness, guilt because I always
knew I can only have one or the other.
either speed, or a relationship.
never both.
if I'm happy with my mate for 8 years, we start doing speed
again, after 6 years clean, because of what happened to us the
first time we did speed....the ninth year, he was violent, he
abandoned me in vegas, he got way perverted
into transvetite porn.
my other BF became paranoid beyond belief..
....thinking benign things meant some evidence of a
conspiracy....
it was insane.
....and meanwhile I looked for stuff I lost, and drew pictures
for hours.
Did their anger and denial increase?
Yes, both got violent, very angry, and said it was'nt the speed. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
I totally agree - smoking
made me more of a hermit, and the whole ritual of the pipe was
pretty intriguing.
And yeah, it goes faster and it costs more. The odd thing for me
was that smoking it didn't make me want to pick my skin, and
snorting it did.
After a while I just couldn't snort anymore - after smoking it,
snorting it grossed me out. |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
I unfortunately was one
of those people who was slamming right off of the bat. The first
time I ever used I did a shot.
I alway's thought the smokers acted more like "crack heads" than
any of the other type of users.
At least snorting or slamming you do it and your off. The
smokers that I was around always had a pipe and torch in their
mouth and hand or worse tin foil and a bic pen with the guts
out.
Smoking always seemed like to much trouble and wasted alot of
time. JMO but I think you spend alot more money because the rush
you get off of smoking is alot better than snorting and not as
good as slamming so you spend more time trying to get that
"first hit" feeling that never comes. You have spent your whole
paycheck and 2 day's before you know it.
Like I said JMO |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
When I first started
smoking meth I was just so tweeked out I thought I had to do a
big fat line in order to get back to where I would feel o.k. But
that didn't last long! I ended up smoking meth for around ten
years. Sometimes it would turn me into Zombie like.... |

Re: From snorting meth to smoking meth....the changes?
OMG i realised why I love
this site and why I chose my new life - recovering..... reading
all your replies has just been like attending a NA meeting (but
I am at home sick in bed)!!!!! love it!
i could relate to so many things you all wrote and realised the
falseness in the person I once was... and that only makes me
want to stay in my new life even more....
thinking of smoke travelling up the pipe right now makes me want
to gag... (not sure if me having tonsilitus right now has
anything to do with that) but yeah I could not imagine anything
worse.... and i like that!
thanks all x |
