Kitty52 Does this mean he is getting closer to the bottom?

He has a warrant out for his arrest, some stolen property. He's moving out of the area to work on some "ranch". Taking his annuity $$$--$14,000, in two installments of $7000 each. He used to have a good job with the union.....hasn't worked in several years. Is a daily meth user, smokes..is leaving his family behind, not married, mom, dad...etc. Has no friends, burns everyone!! Says he is getting a car that runs,,,,won't be able to register it with a warrant?? Never owns the junk cars he has, not to mention the stolen stickers. I'm sure you know the routine..I am afraid he will kill himself with all that $$$ and dope..I am just venting......thanks all.... Is this to be expected on his way "down"?

It sounds like it.
But you shouldn't "expect" anything.
If you have no expectations, you won't be let down... again.

My husband went through over half a mil and lost everything along the way. He went down, but has never hit his bottom. Sometimes they just don't see it when we think they are there.

Kitty:

First of all, NO EXPECTATIONS; you will only set yourself for heartache and disappointment.

Second,

The last year I used, I used meth several times a day, and I will tell you that each and every time during that last year, I was hoping it would be the last time.

I welcomed death at that point. I believed it was the only way to end the madness. And it became sheer madness.

Sounds like he's really out of control, of himself and his life. He's definitely going down. But everyone's bottom is different. Mine was pretty low. I was near death, no question.

I'm 5'3", and I got down to 85 lbs. and declining by the day by the time I got clean. I lost everything; too numerous to list here. I went to prison for the first offense of my entire life. I lost my husband (still out there using), and I robbed my children of most of their childhood, at least, a secure, quality childhood.

Depends on the person just when and where they will drop to their knees and admit that they are powerless over their drug. Until then, there's not much any of us can do.
Good luck to you.

ian Re: Does this mean he is getting closer to the bottom?

Sorry to sound all pessimistic but I wouldn't 'expect' it to have to same affect on him than it would of you. I know from my personal experience is that even when you think that you've got as low as you could, there is always lower.

Take care and good luck .

It sounds like his bottom just might be legal intervention, with warrants out on him and no way to register a vehicle his "geographical" to Texas may be rudely interupted.
$14,000 ought to take him to the outer limits of his meth madness where we often find our bottom.
No one but the addict can be sure just where the bottom is, and quite often that can elude us for decades.
People *do wake up* in that fleeting moment of clarity... and hopes and prayers never hurt anyone, he needs all of ours

imalone Re: Does this mean he is getting closer to the bottom?

I've been here only a few days. But I've learned a lot from every one. I had the same thought that this person did. Pull all cash from pensions and 401k. Jump in my car. Get all the drugs that I wanted and drive to the west coast. Instead of doing this I come here. It's a choice. Life or death. I went with life. But if I would have done this. I would be dead in less then 6 months. The reason I would have left is to die. Everyone has a different bottom. My bottom was when my son was taken away from me. This is a harsh reality check from an addict. Good luck and come back for support. If I didn't find this forum. I would be in my car heading west and tweaking.

I had to help hubby find his bottom. There were warrants out, he'd lost everything HE owned, and was blowing 4K a week, still doing an 8-ball a day sometimes. But he had it all under control.

I called the police to come get him. He doesn't hate me for it, and I hope someday he'll thank me. He knows he'd be dead if I hadn't done what I did, he's told me.

"some can live on the bottom for a long time" is right.
Hugs to you.

Re: Does this mean he is getting closer to the bottom?

Like I have always say ...

Bottom is NOT something you can see from the outside looking in. Like Ian said ... you think you hit your bottom and then ... you discovered you could go even lower.
Jails, and Loosing houses and cars, and wives, and husbands, being Fired ... living in a hotel ... trading your ass for money to buy dope, being beaten up over and over again ....

THOSE ARE NOT BOTTOMS.

They might be things that in the end make you willing to crawl out from the mess you have created ... but they arent bottoms.

Bottom is ... when inside ... Your BEATEN DOWN. When your finally ready to try things a new way ... because inside your just lost.

Bottom isnt something you can see.

And for the normal non drug user ... it is probably not even something you can imagine ....

WE Hang on for dear life even when have sunk lower then anyone ever would have thought ...

There is NO Predicting when Bottom is.

just Pray ... that is all we are left with.
