I'm Trying To Quit Crystal Meth, But I Need Some Help Bad!
im not new to drugs, i started with ecstasy, did it every weekend for 2 years, then jumped to coke and alcohol for 3-4 years. I then tried meth, about a year and a 1/2 ago. first i was sniffing it, a bump or 2 an hour, while i did coke and drank. i loved it because i naturally sleep late, so i would start on a thurday, and stay up till sunday. i would accomplish everything i couldn't during the week. of course the depression came, but by tuesday i was fine. 6 months ago i started to smoke it. i dropped coke, alcohol, everything except cigarettes. at first, i would go from monday to thursday clean, then stay up the rest. it was making me focus better, i was completing projects faster and better, i lost fear, and gained confifence, plus if i didn't smoke too much at once, no one knew i was on it. then i started doing it on mondays, tuesdays, etc, etc, until the point where i couldn't get up unless i took a hit. i would get at least 6 hours of sleep a night, started to be able to eat with it and more. now it almost became not a high, but something to make me function. I was mean to everyone, went from going out to bars and clubs to staying home everynight, locked in my room, and i was a very social person, 100 friends dropped to 1 and he was the only person doing it too. now i try to quit, i could sleep for days straight, bones ache, no appetite, no motivation, basically i cant function period. now i am a busy person, i quit for 4 days, but gave in by the 5th in order to go to work to pay rent. i cant afford to lay in bed for weeks, otherwise i'll be broke, homeless, jobless, and more. What can i do, people on heroin to methadone, theres no substitute? i drank 3 cups of coffee and passed right back out. there must be some way around this, even if its not so good for you, it cant be as bad as this meth diet i need to function.

Trying to function,

I totally hear what you're saying, you should come to this board often and try out American Methology too - it's a fun site that will keep you busy.

Your story is almost scary as it's almost identical to mine. At least the first part of it with your drug use. I understand about losing friends, I only have about 1 at the moment as well... when I left NY and my husband, I lost all of my friends. I was a real social person and now pretty much keep to myself here in California with my boyfriend.

Life is so much better without meth... I can promise you that. You need to find time to rest up - give yourself a week in the bed and by your 7th day you'll be ok. At least that's the average time period for most people when they go off meth.

If you stay on the meth diet, you'll end up losing your job and your life. Instead - get your life back by quitting. See a doctor and tell them what's going on. I'm not saying medication is the best way but it was for me and they can give you something that might be able to really help you. Just an idea....

All I can say is I'VE SO BEEN THERE!

When I got clean I couldn't get outta bed for weeks, I couldn't take care of my kid, I couldn't take care of my dog, I couldn't cook, pay bills, do laundry; any of the "basics". I was completely useless to myself and everyone around me. I was MISERABLE. I was depressed, I was suicidal. I couldn't function at the most basic level. I WAS A MESS!

BUT, 130 days later, I'm still clean, and I'm here to tell ya that IT DOES PASS!

It's HELL while you suffer through it, especially if you have people depending on you. There's no way around it - it's part of the price we have to pay for abusing our bodies like we did.

At one time, I was absolutely SURE I'd feel that way forever. Days dragged into nights which dragged into days again and NOTHING got done. My finances fell apart because I couldn't even pay a bill or balance my checkbook. My memory left me. Couldn't concentrate worth shyt. But it did pass, just like everyone here said it would.

There's only one way through it - through it. Ya can't go over it, under it, or around it. Unfortunately, you HAVE to go through it. But PLEASE believe me....once you get through it, you're done. You still need to work some kind of recovery program to stay clean and work on pre-existing problems, but at least the hideous non-functioning, lethargic, slug-fest will be over.

Hope this helps.

Hang in there....because it's worth it!

Lisa, seeing YOU write these words just made my day - my week - hell, I might get by for a month on this one.

I am SO happy you FINALLY got there - you have no IDEA how happy this makes me today!!!!!!!

If I was your mom I would say "talk to me." As I know more then you think. If you are concerned that I will ask you something and you don't want to answer, please ask me to just listen. That is what you need.

I will go with you if you would like to the Dr/NA/Counselor.

I will not judge you.

I just want my daughter/son back!

The longer you wait the harder it will be to get your groove back!

"trying to function" in the withdrawl stages is asking more of ourselves than we can muster.
If I did the math right, you have 6 1/2-7 years of hardcore addiction behind you. Of course you think you need drugs to "function", but you, like the rest of us have reached the point of diminishing returns, and are realizing that,i.e. DRUGS DON'T WORK!
If we keep burning the candle at both ends, what's left?
Getting past this requires a working knowledge of that which we're trying to get past, what we're actually doing to ourselves.... and WHY we do it
These are questions that we're unable to answer while in the throes of active addiction.
Get some outside help, maybe an honest assessment by an addictions counselor, and consider hooking up with addicts that have beat their addiction. There are a number of cognitive and/or spiritual approaches to beating addiction, all of which can be accessed via this forum.
So stick around, the advice here is free and diverse and you'll find something that will make your escape from addiction much more likely to happen.
Keep in mind that when we stop using we're starved, dehydrated, sleep deprived, neuro-toxic and essentially fried. Acute withdrawl is inevitable although there are a few things you can do to ease the misery. Regardless we must accept that we are going down...hard!.....
help is a good thing when we do, if you want help make this forum a daily habit, post how you feel, post if/when you relapse. Come here for the same reasons that you showed up here the first time, keep showing up... and NEVER give up! and you will beat this just like the rest of us.
One day at a time.

I too was caught in the exact same cycle as you after using for almost 6 years. It is hard to function when you're going through withdrawal but I actually found that work was a bit of a savior for me. It forced me to get up and get out of the house when my inclination was to collapse. It definitely took my mind off of the agony and misery I was experiencing, albeit for a very short time.
This was my experience. Congrats on quitting - I know it's hard but I can say with certainty that after three years clean IT IS SO WORTH IT.

you know, i cant believe theres so many people out there going through the same exact problems. after i saw how many responses came back, i guess just by coming here is the first step. im going to try to quit, but i have to make some kind of arrangements so i could "dissappear" for a week and go through it. thank everyone who posted though, it helps.

How many? Thousands and thousands.

Yes, there really is that many of us trying desperately to escape the slavery and brutality of meth addiction.

But you know how we are, we do everything we can to reamin so ultra secretive, and quite often we succeed at that, so not many people know how many of us there really are.

Like the others said, keep coming to this website on a regular basis, you'll get plenty of support, encouragement and information.

If possible consider a 12-step program. I highly recommend Crystal Meth Anonymous because CMA concentrates mostly on meth addiction. We are also allowed to discuss the problems that are unique to speedfreaks in CMA meetings.
(It takes one to know one)

Please be assured, you are not alone and your problems are not uncommon.

I know how you feel, when I finally got ready to quit, I was not longing feeling the high, yet just using to function. I checked myself into an IOP and took the first week off work, but I didn't lay around I made myself go to NA meeting, then would crash back out till my group met. It does get better tho...

Now I wake up between 8-10am and can get thru my day without feeling like I'm gonna fall out at any min! Just hang in there it is so worth it!!

Hi honey. I haven't been around much, but your post jumped out at me, so here I am.

Hey, there are many of us. And we are just like you. We have walked in the shoes you now find yourself in, and we have learned a better way to LIVE, without meth.

I was a meth addict for 13 years. I'll be clean 10 years on July 1st. I got clean when I was 40, and that means........I'm going to turn 50 years old shortly after my ten years clean birthday. I want you to know that every single solitary moment beyond the last day I used has been a bonus.

Take back your life. I did. Thousands upon thousands have.

It's NOT easy. It gets harder before it gets easier from the moment you stop. But life using is a one way street, and the bottom of all bottoms will be death. IT WILL BE. The elevator only goes down with meth.

When you seek recovery, you learn to heal the wounds that caused you to turn to dope in the first place. You learn that life is worth living, and that you are a worthwhile person, and important.

And you do feel better, physically and emotionally, with help, eventually. Recovery is NOT instantaneous. It takes WORK. ALOT of work.

But the reward is LIFE, and honey, life really is remarkable. If you've never experienced how remarkable life is, stick around, you get clean, and YOU WILL.

I promise.

Keep coming back. We are addicts, recovering addicts, loved ones and family members of addicts, and we welcome you with open arms and open hearts.

It's time to come in from the rain.

I was where you are at about 13 days ago. Yes, I am still in the early days of my recovery. I know that right now, quiting seems impossible. I myself am sitting here yawning, but just wanted you to know that yes recovery possible. Just take it one day or minute at a time.

"I think I can. I think I can." Eventually it will be:
"I KNOW I CAN. I KNOW I CAN."
